eBay Pair BACCARAT ART GLASS CRYSTAL Medallion CANDELABRA 4 ARMS 78 PRISMS -- Nice!Presenting a Most Exquisite Mid 20th Century Pair of Massive BACCARAT French ART GLASS {Medallion Pattern} 4 ARMED / 78 PRISM CANDELABRUM for your auction pleasure. If you note the first (2) images you note there are (2) different interchangeable central BOBECHES present -- (1) is the larger plain cup & the other holds (9) 4 1/2" spear prisms.There are (78) DROP SPEAR PRISMS to the pair in all and this extra fancy table top decorative accessory measures an oversized 17" tall overall X 12 1/2" wide. And the weight of each is 14 pounds, 9 ounces.. BEAUTIFUL CANDELABRUM PAIR in the Baccarat "Medallion" Pattern, having mirrored & scalloped edges and bobeches, all supported on circular bases with "beaded" edge detailing. And I'm happy to report that the condition remains generally very good to excellent by any and all standards indeed. The only flaw to any glass portions (other than some minor prism nips) is shown in the final detail image. There are (3) protruding point tips at the crook of each of the curvilinear support arms, (2) of these tips have a couple of slightly blunted nips..which can't really be seen but rather just felt with the fingertip Otherwise this fabulous pair really appears about showroom new with no high relief wear, no scarring or discoloration, no scratching to speak of, no footrim wear, no flea bites and no other damages present..Of course, there are a few minor imperfections to several prisms but these are minor in the extreme..We both benefited from my lamp-part hoarding instincts in that I replaced several missing / badly damaged prisms from my stock supply..Also, the Candle Holder Cups have had every vestige of wax, grime & dirt cleaned from them!! An effort which took me, if you would believe it, nearly 4 hours time!!My recommendation is to put on some vinyl gloves when doing the initial set up (so no finger prints) and you will have a like new looking set, that really does defy the imagination in it's shimmering beauty!!!As the day changes in sunlight & luminosity, so the entrancing glass reflects these moods & changes in a manner which is, well, quite hypnotic really Shimmering glints of light are cast about in refracted rainbow glory, as the sunlight plays upon this masterpiece of the glass crafter's artistry..You note that many detail images are included of the prisms.. These images are 3X magnified and likely you will gaze upon this scintillating artform for some hours before you even notice even a single tiny prism imperfection Any prism flaws measure less than 2mm in size..I have had a few of these Baccarat Candelabra in the past (though never the rare 4 armed variety); and in terms of preservation, this pair is by far, the most pristine pair that I have ever owned..AHHHH, SPLENDOR IN THE GLASS!!! Baccarat Eleven Row 1971 Close Concentric Millefiori Paperweight. Baccarat Eleven Row 1971 Close Concentric Millefiori Paperweight. dated 1971. This magnificent close concentric millefiori paperweight has eleven rings or rows with the outer ring pulled down to the center of the base to form a stave basket. Baccarat made this design in 1971 and it has an edition number of 357, but no edition size. The paperweight is signed in the design with Baccarat's complex signature cane "B 1971" in the next to the last ring. The signature cane is upside down in the paperweight and can be difficult to find. It also has an acid etched Baccarat mark appearing twice on the base along with the year (1971) and edition number (357). One of the best of the Baccarat concentric paperweights. Large and showy with great color.Note on number of rows or rings: This design has either ten or eleven rows, depending on whether you count the very first ring around the single center cane. I have chosen to count it as a separate ring to be consistent with past listings. Either way, it is an impressive number of rings for a paperweight Note on edition size: According to Paul Dunlop, this design is not a limited edition and the number made is unknown. Please Note: The stand shown in the pictures is not included with the paperweight. Some scratches on the base. No other chips, cracks, or scratches found on inspection Baccarat was founded in 1776 in Alsace-Lorraine with the name of Verrerie de Sainte Anne. The original location was near the town of Baccarat. Today the firm is known as Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat. Most collectors refer to three periods of Baccarat paperweight production 1845 1860 - Classic period1920-1934 - Dupont period1953-2002 - Modern periodThis classification is definitely an over simplification. The best millefiori and lampwork paperweights were made during the classic period (1845-1860). Baccarat continued to make paperweights after the classic period, but little is known about the extent of the product line or who made the paperweights. What is known is that by 1910, the offering in the catalog had dwindled to pansy paperweights, simple open concentric paperweights, and rock paperweights. Popular lore attributes 1920-1934 Baccarat paperweights to a Mr. Dupont, who supposedly was the last worker at Baccarat to know the secrets of paperweight making. These paperweights were sold at a Baccarat retail shop in Paris. No collector or scholar ever met Mr. Dupont although at least one visited the Baccarat factory and asked to meet with him. The weights stopped appearing in the shop in 1934.In 1952, Paul Jokelson approached Baccarat with the idea of making sulphide paperweights again. In 1953 Baccarat resumed paperweight production with a series of sulphide paperweights the first of which were the unsuccessful Eisenhower sulphide followed by the Queen Elizabeth coronation sulphide. Millefiori paperweight production was resumed in 1957 and lampwork paperweights were re-introduced in the early 1970s.
